The Irwin Rubin Archive is organized by Carmelle Safdie in coordination with the Rubin Family. The archive was established in 2019 in an effort to document, catalog, and preserve Rubin’s artworks and teachings. All research and writing presented on this site is by Carmelle Safdie. Safdie is a New York based artist and archivist who studied Color with Rubin in his last year at Cooper Union, from 2000-2001.

Unless otherwise noted, all artwork photography is by Chris Austin. Special thanks to: Lucas and Simona Rubin; The RISD Museum; the Yale University Art Gallery; The Sheldon Museum; the Martha Jackson Gallery Archive; The Cooper Union School of Art, Library Archives, and Architecture Archive; and to the countless archivists and librarians who made this project possible.

We are seeking to determine the owner and whereabouts of various works by Irwin Rubin, as well as to locate his collection of student’s work and teaching materials. If you have any information to share please write to irwinrubinarchive@gmail.com. We’d love to hear from you!
